Following Ford, Hyundai and Honda, the Japanese car maker Nissan has started thinking seriously about the Indian market. There are now planning to roll out a new sports car Z370 in the Indian market in 2010.

Right from the start, Nissan India is focussed towards high end car market. Unlike some companies, Nissan’s strategy seems to be top-down one whereby they bring in more expensive cars before driving volumes and hitting the mass consumer. An example being their two current offerings the Teana and the SUV X-Trail which cost between Rs 21 and 25 lakhs approximately.

And this new sports car Z370 seems to be in the higher end as well. Though the market for sports car in india is not Big, they hope the interest will increase in the near future.

They are also launching a small car “Micra Hatchback” for Indian market and it will be priced under 5 lakhs and will be available in petrol and diesel variants. (hope you guys are aware of Ford’s recent announcement on Figo – one more small car for indian market)

And, that is not all. Nissan wants to leverage India as a hub for exports. The Nissan indian unit is planning to export cars to Europe in next two years. And most of the export units are gong to be from their existing manufacturing at Chennai. Will a fairly new player in Indian auto market like Nissan be able to create any difference big way ? Their technology and quality cars should give some success at least. Lets wait and watch.
