TVS launches JIVE – India’s First Auto-Clutch Bike and WEGO – automatic scooter

With Bikes and Autos sale picking up after a few slowdown months, TVS Motor is launching its new products at the right time. Seems December month is ideal for new Auto model launches as Volkswagen Beetle is getting ready for its launch too. Yesterday, TVS unveiled a new bike model – TVS Jive and a scooter model – TVS Wego.
TVS Jive is India’s first Auto-Cluth Bike model and it is powered by a 110cc Engine with 8.1bhp and 8.1Nm of torque. The Jive is unique in that it’s the only bike available in India that comes with a four-speed rotary gearbox and it is clutchless. Shifting gears on the TVS Jive does not require to operate the clutch, which according to the company makes this bike ideal choice for high traffic cities/towns.
And, Jive can stop in the signal without lowering the gear and can start off even when not in Gear Neutral position. This anti-stall mechanism makes smooth riding possible at low speeds even in high gears, without the engine shutting off. This is not possible in motorcycles with the regular clutch system. The downward rotary gear system enables the rider to reach neutral straight from top gear. However, it is not necessary that the bike has to be in neutral while starting. The bike can be started in any gear and is fitted with an electric start for convenience. It is also the first bike in the country to have an under seat storage space.
Apparently, the company has spent over 40 crores to get this Clutchless Bike technology done. Also,TVS has applied for few patents for the innovative technologies like Rotary Gear System, Anti-Stall System that has been made to work in its latest bike. TVS Jive is priced at Rs 41,000 ex-showroom, Chennai and it will be available from December, 2009.
The TVS Wego, fitted with the same 110cc engine as the Jive. The model is looking good and should be a good competitor for Honda Activa Scooters. The Wego is priced at Rs 42,500 ex-showroom, Chennai and should be available in the market from Jan, 2010
TVS Wego has Body Balance Technology that enables lower steering effort, better control and maneuverability through optimum vehicle mass and mass distribution, making it the best scooter to handle in city traffic conditions. Other Features include alloy wheels, sleek contour body, LED Tail lamp with optical guides, external fuel fill with hinged cap, an integrated glove box, twin city lamps, maintenance free battery, gas filled rear shock absorber, under seat combo charger to charge the vehicle battery as well as a cell phone and patented EZ center stand. The scooter’s under seat storage space that can hold a full face helmet.
TVS has definitely come up with two strong products Jive and Wego and much needed models for the Indian Traffic conditions.
