Generally European brand cars are overrated in India. Skoda models are easily 10+ Lakhs, VolksWagen Jetta automatic model is selling at 18+ Lakhs. And, the Beetle is not going to be any cheaper either.
Volkswagen Beetle are going to be imported totally from other countries and there are no production or assembling units for them in the country yet. The company will have to pay a duty of almost 110 per cent as import duties on the Beetle, which will effectively double the cost of the two-door, four-seater cars. It is available in petrol as well as in diesel fuel option with five engine variants overseas. It will be imported to India from the company’s Mexican plant.

Though the company is tight lipped about the Beetle model cars prices, may have guessed the car will be priced around 20 Lakhs. The company sells the Beetle in five variants internationally, across Europe, the US and other countries. Well, if we go by the prices, Volkswagen is not trying to take its existing model to the masses, but, only establishing its brand name through already successful car models. The company is planning to build new models for India in India soon and a good brand name will surely help them in future.

Beetle, which was once People’s car (in Europe, it was so economical in prices like our Maruti 800, Tata Nano) is becoming the car for Elite’s. Lets wait and watch if Beetle could top the Elite car list in India.
