Paypal India PAN number verification doesn’t work – screws up Indian customers more

By Manoj Govindassamy on 12 March, 2010, 10:00 am

Seems nothing is going right for Paypal India for the past one month. Reserve Bank Of India (RBI) suspended PayPal India Operations citing non compliance to rules and regulations.

Few weeks later, Paypal resumed part of its services allowing local bank withdrawals for settlements for exports of goods and services by introducing a new filed called Purpose code while one selects “Withdraw funds” on your paypal account. This information is required under the laws of India in order to identify the nature of cross-border merchant transactions.

The company has been actively working to get the Local Bank remittances for the rest of the customers since then.

When I tried to log in to my Paypal India account today, I was in for a surprise when the account asked for my mobile number and PAN number. This is a pleasant surprise to me as this would help RBI to track the money movements done with the PAN number entered here in case it wants to. So, Paypal is sorting out issues with RBI to get the full services.

You will be asked for your Mobile Number and PAN number like the one you see above when you login for the first time to your India Paypal account from today.
I tried keying in my mobile number and the PAN number assuming all the problems would be over in another few seconds. But, what turned put to be is still more worse. Yes, the bad days for paypal india is not over still. After keying in my PAN number, Paypal yelled at me in no time with the below screen.

I was stuck on this page for a while, without knowing how to get onto my account. Seems Paypal India PAN Number verification is broken or some other hiccups and I was simply not able to use my paypal account for hours today. Then I found accidentally the workaround of getting onto my account page by skipping these verifications. If you would like to know, please comment and I will send you the details.
