Croma App Store powered by Intel AppUp Center – Intel partners with electronics retailer Tata Croma
Tata owned electronics retailer Croma recently launched “Croma Apps” (powered by Intel AppUp center) a software application store pre-installed on Intel Atom processor-based netbooks. I guess this is only for the netbooks sold under Croma brand and not for all the netbooks sold by other manufacturers. Even other Netbooks should be able to get this Croma Apps installed later on by visiting the app center.
With Croma Apps, consumers should have access to over 1,000 applications from categories including entertainment, social networking, games and productivity, providing them with a choice of personalized and enhanced user experiences on their netbooks. Existing netbook users can also download these free and paid applications by visiting Croma’s website and downloading the Croma Apps client.
Its strange to see Intel partnering with Indian electronics retailer rather than partnering directly with netbook manufacturers. I have no idea of Netbook market in india and how much Croma has hands on it, but, this is partnership doesn’t sound compelling to me.
With this Intel partnership, Croma becomes the first Indian retailer offering Software App Store for Netbooks in India. I would love to hear more from Croma and Intel on how this App Store concept working out for both of them.
