Sun TV Network gets into TV Channel Distribution – Watch Jetix, Hungama now in Sun Distributions
One of the Indian media conglomerates Sun TV Network is making some remarkable progress over the past few quarters. The company is currently running plethora of TV channels (21 channels) in the country and mostly catered towards south Indian (tamil, telegu, malayalam and kannada) crowd. Apart from these, the company is also successful in FM radio business, DTH and in the movie distribution.
Few months back, there were rumours on Sun TV Network entering into TV channel distribution business along the lines of Star Den Networks and Zee Turner. The idea is to assemble lots of channels and create a package and distribute in cable, DTH, IPTV and other platforms.
The rumour turned out to be real. The company’s TV Channel Distribution arm will be called as Sun Distribution Services (under Kal Comm subsidy) and will be functional from April 1st (I think, the icon channel Sun TV started on the same day). Sun Distribution Services has already started assembling TV channels for its packages.
Sun TV has inked in a deal with Walt Disney and there by Disney channels India have decided to move out of Star Den’s distribution network. So, the highly popular kids channels like Jetix, Hungama, Disney XD will be handled by Sun Distribution Services (SDS).
The company is also trying to woo other independent TV channels to join the foray. So, we can expect whole lots of other popular channels on SDS apart from the house’s 21 channels.
