Vacancy in IIT’s and IIM’s : Staff shortage

The country’s top educational institutions IIT’s and IIM’s are in a very unique problem. One side the placements are back to top form and all is well for students, the institutions are facing shortage of staff. This is in spite of the having attractive pay structure, good accommodation and other perks.

IIT Kharagpur is facing maximum vacancy of 299 faculty, followed by 222 in IIT Bombay, 194 in IIT Roorkee, 138 in IIT Madras, 78 in IIT Delhi, 69 in IIT Kanpur and 65 in IIT Guwahati.In fact, the number of vacancy increased from 877 in the seven old IITs in 2008-09 to 1,065 in 2009-10. In the recently started eight new IIT’s the number of vacant posts stood at 280.

Similarly, there are 95 vacant posts in the seven IIMs. IIM-Bangalore has maximum vacancy of 35 posts followed by 29 in IIM-Ahmedabad.

The institutions claim they are making all efforts to attract the top talent to join these by giving more perks. It is time for people with the right skill set suiting these to be on their toes and be alert. Watch out this space for more on these.
