Dell invites distributors for mobile phones in India

Dell, the world’s third largest PC maker, selling laptops & desktops, is planning to venture into the fastest growing mobile market of India.

Dell has launched ads in newspapers in India saying it is looking out for distributors of mobile phones, with retail reach. However, in the ad there are no details of what kind of phones, or by when, Dell plans to launch in India.

In 2009, Dell announced its entry into the world smartphone market by starting a new communications group working on phones and mobile gadgets. There are not many options for Dell to offer to its customers right now. But there are speculations that Dell is working on a Windows Phone 7 based device called Dell Lightning

India is the second largest wireless market in the world with about 618 million mobile-phone users as of May-end. This is expected to exceed 771 million by 2013. In 2009 alone, an estimated 101.54 million handsets were sold in the Indian market.

The Indian mobile market is mostly dominated by low-cost mobile handsets. However, smartphone makers Apple & Research In Motion have already entered into this price-sensitive market. Other handset makers like Nokia, Samsung and LG also have smartphone offerings to their customers. We need to wait and watch what Dell offers to the Indian mobile users, and how the users accept their offerings.
