We live in an era where no sector is untouched by internet. The timing just seems to be perfect for internet which turned 40 this year. Off late, movies have started using internet in big way. Publicity is an indispensable part of the movies ever since the beginning.
It began from a single page, to big colour posters, to digital posters and then to websites. the websites have also grown a lot over the ages. What began as dull and boring websites with list of cast and crew and pure information, we have moved to flashy multi colour websites with flashy photos of actors, interesting tidbits of the movie, interesting trailers and collage work.
Not only this, the websites these days tend to reflect the true mood of the film giving an insight of what the audience can expect in the movie. The color codes used in the website are a reflection of the type of movie it is supposed to be. This trend has caught the film makers off late.

The reason for this is the market which is developing for the desi movies overseas where internet is one of the major publicity medium. This in turn has benefitted the small and medium rung web development companies in giving them new businesses. Also, marketing companies are offering website designing as part of their package to allure producers.Another way of luring in audiences to the websites is by having contests and giving away prizes, of course to a very few of them. This in addition to increasing the viewership of the websites, also increases the interest in the movie among the audience.
Another interesting trend off late is actors, actresses, directors, producers and other who’s who of the movies publicizing their movies on twitter. Twitter still being in its nascent stage is yet to be treated as a popular way of promoting movies, but it is sure to catch up.

Also, the online advertising like yahoo and google ads are being used extensively to widen the reach.
