India’s mobile user base is growing at a very fast rate, adding millions & millions of users every year. Till yesterday, India was known for its fast growing mobile usage. Now, not only are we the end users of the mobile techology, we are even defining the mobile & telecom business. Mango technologies, a start-up firm at Bangalore, has sold two of its own home-grown produts to one of the world’s leading wireless semiconductor company, Qualcomm.

As part of this multi-million dollar deal, Mango technologies has sold a mobile handset user interface software & a PC-based UI customisation tool kit to Qualcomm. As per the co-founder & CEO of Mango, Sunil Maheswari, they would have found it difficult to scale the products’ usage. Qualcomm, with its enormous reach with the handset makers & operates around the world would be able to scale it quickly.

Follwing this deal, Ojas Ventures, the early stage venture, has withdrawn its funding from Mango technologies. Ojas which has an investment of sub-$500,000 range, may be walking out with an IRR in the region of 70%.

Mango technologies was founded by Sunil Maheswari & Lekh Joshi in 2006. They are into making software for mobile phones. They develop complete solutions for mobile handsets, targetting mostly the low & mid-tier mobile handsets. Mango will continue its work on mobile applications & connected 3G devices to revolutionise agriculture, healthcare, long-distance education, entertain, mobile banking & health sectors in the emerging economies. In 2008, Mango received the NASSCOM Innovation Award for most innovative startup company. Sunil Maheswari has also been named the one of the top five entrepreneurs in India.

India is surely making its mark in the global market, by defining & developing such world-class products.
