Nokia ties up with Tata DocoMo to provide Nokia Ovi Life

Nokia have tied up with GSM service provider Tata Docomo to provide Ovi Life tools, mainly targeting customers in rural areas and small towns.

Nokia Ovi Life tools are a set of software application that comes in select Nokia handsets. It provides information on education, entertainment and agriculture. These tools were created to fill the gaps in these fields.

In order to expand its reach Nokia has tied-up with Tata Docomo to provide information on agricultural and educational news.

For the agricultural services, it provides information about market prices of seeds, crops and fertilizers, and more general tips and advices. There is a basic plan of Rs 30 per month. A premier plan on the same lines provides information on three specific crops that the customer chooses.

For the educational services, they have options to learn English, general knowledge and exam tips, at Rs 30 per month.

These services will be available across 18 states, in over 10 different languages to choose from :  Bengali, Gujarati, Hindi, Tamil, Kannada, Punjabi, Oriya, Marathi, Telugu, Malayalam and English.

Tata Docomo customers can get access to Nokia Life Tool service through SMS, USSD, GPRS and STK, wherein, the SMS can be availed through a short code ’55555′ .

This will surely benefit the rural and semi-urban population of our country, and lesser the digital divide in our country.
