The Business of film making : Course in IIM-A

We spoke here and here about how movies these days are becoming more innovative and business oriented. Seems we have hit the bull’s eye.

The elective for understanding the business in IIM-A of movie making is attracting more than the usual crowd this year. The course is taken by Mr. Bharathan, from kavithalaya Productions, a major film production unit based from Chennai. The focus is on understanding the business dynamics of making movies. Film industry is becoming more and more corporatized with more and more innovative ways of promoting the movies. Not only this, but Kavithalaya is taking in students for internship in the business of movie making. Currently two students are doing the internship and sources say they are doing it well.
As for the south film industry goes, it is already thoroughly professional with MBAs like Mani Ratnam and Siddharth changing the things around professionally. Also, recently Kamal haasan had organized a screen writing workshop for enthusiastic writers in IIT Madras. So, it is the time the film industry is being taken seriously as a good business opportunity. Soon, we can have more and more corporates entering into film business. Are we following the footsteps of Hollywood which is a thoroughly professional?
