UK Govt. budget cut spoils the IT party
There have been talks about UK govt. cutting on the budget and ever since IT cos which have projects from UK have been troubled. At least 35 big UK government IT outsourcing contracts are potentially at risk of renegotiation, including the Tata Constancy Services’ £600 million pension administration contract, as a result of the cuts in government’s IT budget.
UK’s budget deficit has spiralled to over $235 billion, forcing it to have a relook at pricing of its contracts. As a result, its National Identity Register, project which aims to provide citizens with ID cards, is all set to be dropped. The government can be expected to begin targeting existing IT programs that are perceived to provide limited value, or return on investment.
Will this affect other software companies also? We will have to wait and see.
