IT jobs in and around Chennai!!!

We have promised to cover the latest happenings in the placements field in and around Chennai and we did it here and here. The latest buzz in the same arena is that it is virtually raining jobs in colleges. After a delayed monsoon is done with its job,it is now turn of job rain. Not only in top colleges like IIT-Madras but the so called second rung colleges have surprised everyone with the numbers.
IIT-Madras has seen a jump of 40 more offers from the same time last year i.e first 7 days of placements. Compared to 130 offers last year, there have been 170 offers made during the first 7 days. IIT-Madras has seen 40 companies visiting and a major recruiter has been Credit Suisse. The highest package offered till now at IIT-Madras is Rs 26 lakh and the lowest Rs 7 lakh which is higher than last year’s average package of Rs 5 lakh.
The first company to visit the campuses of two other private college has given offers to close to 500 people taken together from these two colleges. With confirmed news of more companies visiting these campuses in forthcoming days, the job market is back on green and the mood in and around Chennai is truly upbeat especially among the college students. : After CTS rampage in recrutiment across Chennai, the largest IT employer in the country TCS has started its own rampage. TCS has recruited a whooping number of 190 odd students from a prestigious engg. college in Coimbatore,TN which boasts of top engineering institutions after Chennai. Moving away to Bangalore, hiring is up by 8.38 % in the IT capital of India, Bangalore. Prominent industries in Bangalore which witnessed a rise in hiring activity include IT and ITES. The IT industry overall saw an increase in hiring activity in November 2009 by 5.35 per cent.Experts say Hiring for IT professionals is ‘back’ .

Infosys is recruting from all the colleges around Chennai. Close to 200 students have been shortlisted for the interview and interviews are in progress as I type this in one od the premier private college. Will update the results as soon as I get to know of them . Keep watching this space for more updates.

Infosys surprised everyone by taking a whooping number of 152 students from the above said college in Chennai where it had shortlisted 170 candidates for the interview. This is by far the highest success ratio in interviews I have ever witnessed. This is indeed surprising because, already 290 students of the same college have been swept by CTS. So placement season in Chennai is rocking!! Stay tuned for more.
Update 23/12/2009
Cognizant rampage continues in Chennai. It has recruited a whooping 700 students from the 3 colleges under the banner of Anna University of Chennai. The long recruitment lasted for 2 days and involved more than 2000 students out of which 700 were offered. So placement season in Chennai is rocking!! Stay tuned for more.
