Fake Dome for new TamilNadu Assembly Building during opening ceremony – a 2 crore replica
Tamil Nadu Government decided to erect a new Assembly building for the state last year and was said the new building would have all latest technologies included and would cost Rs. 450 crores in total. Since then, work was carried out in full pace and the opening ceremony for the new assembly building was planned to be held on 13th of March, 2010.
The new assembly building is inaugurated by Prime minister Manmohan Singh in the presence of UPA chief sonia Gandhi and the state chief Karunanidhi. The plan of the building boasted of having modern marvels with the traditional touch. the highlight of the new Assembly building is the dome which was planned to be erected like temple domes.

With just few more days to go for inauguration, the new assembly building is barely ready and the dome structure is totally unbuilt. The building designers seemed to have sacrificed few building structures just for making the dome nicely lighted and visible from all angles. But for the inauguration without the dome is a serious state issue :) , the building contractors and the government have thought other ways to make inauguration eye catchy one by erecting a complete fake dome just for the function day.

The fake dome is raised by a well known art designer Thotta Tharani (is a popular art director in tamil cinemas and involved in many successful movies down south) at the cost of 2 crores. The dome, whose original construction is suppose to be done by a Bangalore based firm Geodesic for 25 crores is now being replicated with wooden planks and fake structures just for the inauguration day (WTF).
What else could you expect in a state where cinema protagonists have been ruling for decades. Anyways, nice cinematic idea.
