I don’t know if it is a good news or a bad one. But some software companies have defied the Nasscom norms of not recruiting people before they enter 8th Semester in Engineering in some Engineering Colleges in Chennai. This may be because, they want to lead the race and grab the cream of students.
What happens in normal scenarios is colleges do not allow such companies who recruit only in single digits or in mere tens the first slot. And when they are given a slot later in the year, at that time most of the “creamy” students are already placed and unless these companies have a “dream” company status, already placed students won’t be allowed for appearing for these. So they have to run helter-shelter from one college to the other to get the top talent. So they are cashing in on this opportunity where larger recruiters are following the Nasscom norms and the lesser one are going on recruiting.
As per the college authorities, they are allowing the companies which belong to the “dream” category. This is supposedly a good news for the colleges who are getting benefitted from these, the companies recruiting and the ultimately the students who are getting placed. However, for the colleges and students who are not in this “lucky elite” group, the wait is just longer. Here’s me hoping that the wait is worth it and they can cash in when the doors finally open as per the Nasscom rules.
With Nasscom norms stopping some companies from recruiting and some companies ignoring the norms to go ahead with the placements, Placements Aaj Kal looks like another maze, the answer to which is only with time.
