If you are going to join any engineering colleges, the below rank list will greatly help you in choosing your college. As per a survey Engineering graduates still prefer Information Technology jobs over many other fields irrespective of their specialization. Lets hope the the current batch When they pass out there will be a different ecosystem to look at and Information Technology would just be one piece of it. In that way they don’t have to restrict themselves to just IT. Even better they can come up with a totally new field.
This year Top 50 engineering college list published by Mint should help you in choosing the colleges. Of course, the list is dominated by IITs. There should be no surprise on the first 10 numbers. Followed by College of Engineering Anna University. National Institute of Technology, Raipur and Government Engineering College, Thrissur are new additions to 2009 list.

Is it true these rating are…? is sona college or SSn college better than Pondicherry engg. college.. i cant stop laughing…
Even the latest College Ranking report says SSN college and Sona are one of the bests in the country — http://www.moneymint.in/survey/top-engineering-colleges-in-india-2010-rankings-best-government-private-engineering-colleges.
But, we have to understand that these ratings are based on metrics prepared by the committee. It cannot measure Student’s IQ level by any means and It has to go by the data only.
PS: I am also from PEC and I am sad that our college isn’t able to find any place in the top 100 list.

@Durga – generally they rank only top 100 or something, since Pondicherry univ is not in top 100, we dont know the rank officially. But you can check with your college Dean. Once you know please update us, also you can mail more about your course and review of your college to moneymint.in@gmail.com.

Last I heard about Pondicherry Engineering College (PEC) in the rank list was in the year 2000 and it was around 25th rank. But, from then on I haven’t heard PEC listed in the top engineering colleges in India. Will keep you posted when we get to know more info about PEC rankings.
